Noé Sendas e Rui Calçada Bastos, Fifty-Fifty (50/50)
Curadoria de Sérgio Fazenda Rodrigues
23 Nov 2017 - 13 Jan 2018

On the 23rd of November 2017, Miguel Nabinho Gallery presents the exhibition Fifty-Fifty, with new works by Noé Sendas and Rui Calçada Bastos. Simultaneously built in different studios these works are refined by each others presence and by the resonance they establish with the other artists  production.
Sendas and Calçada Bastos work deals simultaneously with the notions of recognition and the efabulation of reality. Meaning that, both artists, gazing their tangible surroundings seize a poetic underlining of objects, situations and images that are modify to transcend it’s original condition.
With the pretext of entering the basement, assuming it as a reference to an interior and subconscious place, but, also as the sole underground of the gallery, these works come from an encounter between the persistence of memory and the will of a new existence.
Establishing references that are grounded to a domestic permanence, but also to a notion of dislocation and departure, one senses the melancholy of absence and the suppression of accommodation. Thus, something sets a state of change, based on what’s gone by, but also in the restlessness of what’s to come.
Dwelling upon what draws closer the practice of these two artists, the exhibition doesn’t set a search for a joint authorship but, instead, looks into a relationship based in shared experiences and mutual unsettlements.
